Tara Jon Manning

Fiber Artist Tara Jon Manning has been making things ever since she can remember. Tara started knitting at age eight, and was painting & stitching before then. Her work explores contemplative craft and slow fashion expressed through fibers, hand dying, and the act of making. She delights in playing in realms of fiber, color, texture and feeling.  Current works include felt “paintings” using wet and dry felt techniques, hand felted wearables, hand spun yarns and all manner of stitched things. Tara loves to teach others to make with their hands. And, in their making, access the beauty of flow state through contemplative slow stitch arts. Her work features hyper-local, low process and up-cycled materials.

Tara grew up in Boulder and holds a BFA from University of Colorado-Boulder & Masters Degree in Apparel & Fiber Arts from Colorado State University. Her hand knitting designs have been widely published and she has authored five books on various topics in hand knitting. Tara has been a vanguard in the contemplative craft space, developing the pioneering Mindful Knitting Retreat, based on her book of the same name. For more please visit www.tarajonmanning.com
