Cathy Faughnan
Modern Impressionist Painter
I am a Colorado native and have always been a visual person and studied design, architecture and urban planning and worked in this field in New York City & New Jersey. Upon returning to Colorado in 2003, I began painting seriously in 2017 and enjoy the challenge of capturing the essence of an object, animal or scene. I love color and the life it brings to the painting. I strive to transform everyday objects and scenes and bring them to life in a modern impressionistic style. I love to let the paint “do what it wants” and am always surprised how my vision for the piece translates onto the canvas. I paint mainly in acrylic but have started to dabble in oils. My subjects include creatures and scenes found in our community that remind everyone of our rich heritage and the beauty of the land around us.
I am the mother of 3 young adults and live with my husband and dog in Lafayette, Colorado. I strive to be a positive influence in our community and have served on the boards of the WOW! Children’s Museum, The Boulder Valley YMCA and the Arts Hub.
My work has shown at The Collective Community Art Center, East Simpson Coffee & Morning Glory Cafe in Lafayette, Boulder Arts and Crafts Gallery, the Museum of Boulder & Louisville First Friday Art Walk. I am a member of the East Boulder County Artist Association (EBCA), the Boulder County Arts Alliance (BCAA), The Boulder Arts Association (BAA). I have recently started teaching at Particulars Gallery and enjoy guiding new painters on their journey in my beginning acrylic class series and workshops. My work is currently on display at Particulars Gallery where I am a member artist in Lafayette, Western Stars Galley in Lyons and Creative Framing Gallery in Louisville.
