Nancy Foster was raised on the East Coast and moved west to earn a Ph.D. in Bioengineering at the University of Utah. While camping in Moab she awoke to the red desert and snow covered peaks of the La Sal Mountains and had an epiphany; the West would be her home. Oil painting had always been a passion for her. After working in the medical products field and having children, she decided to devote her time to painting. She participated in various oil painting and drawing workshops taught by Mike Desatnick, John Poon, David Leffel, Ken Auster, Debra Paris, Shan Wells, Huihan Liu, Jeffrey Watts and Quang Huang. Mike Desatnick, a former instructor at the American Academy of Art in Chicago continues to be her mentor. Nancy is an associate member of the Oil Painters of America (OPA), a member of the Portrait Society of America and Plein Air Painters of the Four Corners. She won an Honorable Mention for “Waiting for the Big One” in an OPA Online Showcase. She enjoys painting the West, its people and still lifes. Nancy lives and works in Durango, Colorado. She will be having an Artist Reception in the upstairs gallery on July 28th from 4-6PM.
