These classes have workshop in the title because each class will be delving into learning specific techniques. However, the beauty of them is that you can pick and choose which specific classes that you want to take based on your own interests and schedule. No long-term commitment is required. However, it is highly recommended that you have some previous watercolor experience or have taken a beginning watercolor class before. pARTiculars has several beginning watercolor class options available through this or other instructors.

NOTE: In this class you might NOT complete an entire painting, as each class will be instruction on specific techniques that can be used in your own individual future paintings.

  • Workshop 1Summer Trees – A combination of wet-on-wet and wet-on-dry techniques will be used to paint watercolor trees. Several techniques will be demonstrated from abstract to detailed so you can develop your own personal style and preference.
  • Workshop 2:Dragonflies – Learn how to paint dragonflies using watercolor, metallic watercolors (gotta have that iridescence with dragonflies!) and perhaps markers. Detailed, loose abstract and illustrative techniques will be discussed and demonstrated.
  • Workshop 3: Poppies – Learn how to paint beautiful translucent poppies in watercolor. Several techniques will be demonstrated such as very loose and abstract to detailed botanical illustration depictions.
  • Workshop 4:Liquid watercolors – Flowers – Try your hand at using liquid watercolors to create beautiful, colorful abstract and illustrative flowers. A variety of techniques will be demonstrated.
  • Workshop 5: Liquid watercolors – Sea creatures – Experiment with liquid watercolor to paint fun and colorful sea creatures such as whales, sea turtles, jellyfish and whales. Illustrative and abstract techniques will be demonstrated. You do not need to know how to draw with this class. Templates can be provided. This is about having fun with watercolor and the movement of the pigment in the water.
  • Workshop 6:Watercolor koi and goldfish. For this class we will learn how to paint colorful koi and goldfish in a simple Japanese style or more detailed depictions.  We will experiment with movement and color.
  • Workshop 7: Metallics – painting on black watercolor paper – Yes, you CAN paint watercolor on black paper! Opaque colors and metallics work best. We may also discuss and use gouache paint in this class. We will be painting a variety of subject matter while doing some hands-on experimenting with the products and how they work on black paper.

Bring to class:  All materials and supplies provided but you are welcome to bring your own supplies.  Contact the instructor if you have any questions.
