The Power of Composition-Online: May 5,12,19,26, 6:30-8:30
May 5, 2020 @ 6:30 pm - May 26, 2020 @ 8:30 pm
This class will take place virtually via zoom, and is for adults and teens and meets on Tuesdays.
Composition may be the single most important factor in whether a painting “works” or not. In this 4 week series you
will dive deeper into the vast ocean of composition. Learn to stop mindlessly copying other artists work, or to being a slave to your reference material, and begin the journey of creating your own unique compositions. We will study some of the masters’ work, and you will engage in painting exercises created to develop the design sense inherent within each one of us. You will learn terms like variety, balance, emphasis, and rhythm, and will explore the Golden Ratio, and how it has been used by master artists throughout the ages.
Instructed by Oil painter Jeanne Hougen, this class is suitable for painters in all mediums, as more emphasis is placed on learning drawing skills and techniques, than on paint application.
Artists of all skill levels will also benefit from this class, although beginners would receive more help in basic paint application if painting in oils or acrylics. Class sizes are kept small to allow for plenty of one on one instructor to student interaction.
If you are a beginning student please contact Jeanne to discuss the possibility of meeting beforehand to make sure you are prepared for the first day of class.
Please contact instructor for a supply list, and with any questions at jhougen@comcast.net, or by calling 303-519-5254.
