September 15 @ 9:00 am - September 17 @ 4:00 pm

BEGINNER GOUACHE FOR PLEIN AIR – Workshop:
Instructor: Judd Mercer- Ages: AdultsBring to Class:
This beginner’s workshop is designed to help new painters become familiar with gouache, a fantastic portable medium for plein air. Students will start small and learn the foundational principles of landscape painting in an accessible step-by-step format.
Gouache techniques covered will include color mixing, washes, and application through exercises and demos. Composition, values, and color concepts will be covered in an engaging lecture format. The main goal of this workshop is to help develop the skills and confidence needed for new painters to get out to paint and enjoy the process! Total beginners are welcomed, but this class is also a great refresh for painters switching mediums or wanting to get outside.
We will try to paint outside on the last day so if you have plein air gear, bring it, but it’s not required.
Supplies to bring: -Water media sketchbook such as a Strathmore Mixed Media or Moleskine Watercolor Sketchbook or a Ringed Sketchbook. If you prefer, you can also bring illustration board panels cut down to a manageable size (8×10, 5×7) or a watercolor paper block.-Watercolor or portable palette. Something small with 8-10 wells. A pochade box will work as well if you have one.-Masking tape-Small mister spray bottle-Gouache: Any standard 12 color set and we can work with that, or you can mimic my palette(below). Student grade is ok for this class, but try to avoid acrylic gouache as it dries too fast.
