Week 1 – Yes you can draw – Students will start an art journal built on a daily practice of drawing/sketching to aid in learning to “see” and then translating objects and images to paper first using pen/pencil and then paint. Students will be asked to add to the journal throughout the month to aid in advancing their confidence and skill. Week 2 – Let’s play with paint and color – Students will learn about color theory using analogous and complementary colors to create a “negative” shape painting on a wood panel. The result will be a unique creation that everyone will be proud to display! We will discuss ideas for each student’s main painting that we will start on Week 3. Week 3– Time to Paint – Students will do a series of quick small paintings with large brushes to get comfortable. Once warmed up, students will get started on their main painting. Individualized suggestions will take place as students get started. Week 4 – You are an Artist – Students will continue working on their painting with guidance and hopefully move toward a finished piece. We will review each other’s work and make positive suggestions at our final “Art Show and Tell”
