Suzanne Connolly Howes

My love of nature is reflected in all of my art and I hope that my art brings people closer to their own connection to the grace and beauty of the natural world. I love to play with two very different mediums: clay and fiber. Each resonates with different parts of my connection to nature. Fiber art has always been a part of my life. I am currently entranced with the ancient art of wet felt-making. It allows me to paint with wool and the physical rubbing and shrinking of the fibers is immensely satisfying. My other love in the fiber arts is painting silk. The technique I use is a cross between batik and water color and I love the fluid nature of the art form. Clay has been a more recent love affair. Working in clay for the first time I came home to myself – a place where I found inner peace and sanctuary. With clay, I give voice to the sacred. With a sense of wonder, I meet each creature as it comes to life through my hands.
